Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park Hosts March for Parks
on Public Lands Day, September 24
Carlsbad, NM – Living Desert will host the annual March for Parks event on Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. March for Parks has been a community event in Carlsbad, NM since 1995 and is sponsored by the Living Desert State Park in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
Through the event, participants raise money to support community park projects, which this year will be a fitness trail at Jefferson Montessori Academy. Marchers walk from the base of the Ocotillo Trail up to the Living Desert, where an awards ceremony is held. Marchers that raise the most money are eligible to win great prizes.
The Living Desert State Park Visitor Center will have many exhibits featuring local public lands agencies. There will be door prizes, children’s activities, face painting, giveaways, and refreshments. There will also be a silent auction with many wonderful items to bid on. There are no fees to attend the event in the Visitor Center, however regular admission fees apply to enter the zoo.
